Jean Sibelius (1865-1957): Symphony no. 6 in D minor opus 104 Finnish National Orchestra conducted by Georg Schnéevoigt, recorded in 1934

The first commercial recording was made by Georg Schnéevoigt (1872-1947) with the Finnish National Orchestra on 8 June 1934 for HMV’s Sibelius society. Schnéevoigt was a close friend of Sibelius and often performed Sibelius’s orchestral music. He discovered the manuscripts of Sibelius’s pieces Lemminkäinen and the Maidens, and Lemminkäinen in Tuonela which had been thought lost and gave their first performance. (Source: Wikipedia)
